Re-Exposing Stone Wall and Repointing Mortar Joints in Aston, PA

The old stone building had been coated over with stucco at some point in its life and was left looking bleak. We removed the stucco, exposed the stone, cleaned it and repointed it to bring it back to its original glory.

This project was a great example of how we can help you with your masonry needs. As a four generation masonry team, providing quality work for homeowners and businesses alike. This project was done for a client who is an architect by trade and he knew exactly what he wanted when he came to us with his ideas. We were happy to help him out with this project and get it completed on time and on budget!

Stone House Repoint in Aston, PA

This old stone home had been neglected for decades and was in need of repointing. We removed all the old mortar and repointed the stone with the crown joint style of stone pointing. The homeowner requested that we make the new pointing look aged and so we used a variation of brushes to make the new work look old.

Repointing is required when your mortar has completely deteriorated or when there are gaps between your stones where water can seep in. In this case, we removed all of the old mortar and replaced it with new mortar that matched the existing color as closely as possible.

Repointing is not only beneficial to your home's exterior appearance but also helps keep moisture out of your foundation walls by preventing water from penetrating into them through cracks in the mortar joints.

After removing all of the old mortar and cleaning off any loose debris from around each stone, we spread new premixed mortar onto each individual joint using a trowel (or hawk) blade, then inserted an iron rod (known as an iron back or iron wire) into each joint to help hold everything together during drying time (about 48 hours).

Brick House Repoint in Havertown, PA

The mortar joints on this home were failing and several sloppy attempts were made t repair them. We removed all of the old mortar and repointed it along with removing mortar from the faces of the brick from a previous sloppy repair. We then cleaned out the joints to ensure that we had a good bond.

The homeowner was very happy with our work and is now enjoying a well-maintained exterior that will last for years to come.

Stone Wall Rebuild, Merion Station, PA

This wall had already partially collapsed and was in danger of collapsing completely before we got there. We demolished the existing wall, excavated behind, re-installed the wall using the existing stone which saved the home owner thousands in material cost. Behind the wall we installed a new crushed stone drainage field with 4 inch perforated pipe and 2 inch weep pipes allowing for the water behind the wall to exit ensuring that it will not collapse again.

The result is a beautiful stone wall that will last for many years to come!

Window Lintel Replacement in West Chester, PA

This client had a rusted steel lintel that was allowing water to penetrate their brick wall. We cut open the wall and replaced the steel lintel with a new hot dipped galvanized steel lintel, installed vinyl flashing and reinstalled the bricks.

Fireplace Veneer Renovation-Narberth, PA

This fireplace was in need of a serious makeover. We removed the wood paneling and existing mantle. Installed a new stone veneer and hearth over the brick and a new custom wood mantle in place of the cheap wood paneled one.

The result is a beautiful focal point that's both functional and stylish!

Stone Fireplace Veneer Installation, Broomall, PA.

This is an example of a stone fireplace veneer installation. We installed this stone veneer wall over a previously dry walled wall, which included the removal of the existing mantel.

Basement Waterproofing, Wynnewood, PA

We were called to a home in Wynnewood, PA to investigate a water intrusion problem. The homeowners had noticed some water coming into their basement and needed it repaired.

The basement had deteriorating parged over stone foundation walls with water intrusion through the walls and floor. We installed a traditional interior French drain system with sump pump along with re-parging the stone foundation walls and installing Thoroseal cementitious coating over parged walls.

After this project was completed, we also installed drainage layer around perimeter of the basement that allows excess moisture to drain away from the house foundation.
